Reflections for Police Officer Daniel J. Pope
I was serving a Felony D.V. warrant the night you and Ron were killed. The radio crackled with "two officers killed...BOLO for....". The knot in my stomach was sickening. God bless you Dan. The two of you are heros for ever, never to be forgotten. Thank you for your service.

We in the Greater Cincinnati area have gone over 10 years without losing a fellow officer in
the line of duty. During this time, our community/police relations have been relatively good,
until recently. Within the past year, Police officers in the City of Cincinnati and the Greater
Cincinnati area have been the subject of intense scrutiny over actions, and decisions made by
them in the performance of their jobs. It has been trying for us all. With the recent tragic
loss of P.O. Pope and Spec. Jeter, the outpouring of support and grief from the entire
Tri-State community has been overwhelming for all in the law enforcement community who feel we
have lost 2 members of our family. Dan Pope was a friend of mine with whom I worked with before
either of us became police officers. His friendly smile, warm handshake, and quick wit will be
what I will always remember. They say that the Lord works in mysterious ways...and even though
we are struggling at the loss of our brothers at this most difficult of times, it would be a
lasting tribute to their memories that the community take note of the fact that we have
feelings, we hurt, and we care about the communities that we serve. This would be an
appropriate legacy to 2 officers that, in a short period of time, touched the lives of those
they came in contact with both personally, and professionally.
This is a profession that we do not choose, but on that chooses us...We will think of them
often......and they will be with us always.....

Here, I stand again, as the casket of a fallen brother(s) draped with the American flag makes
its way past the tear filled eye's of the officer(s) & families left to deal with the pain of
life without a father, husband, friend, & brother.
I watch as a sea of car's, lights rotating/flashing in a show of unity for a friend who paid
the ultimate sacrifice. I watch as civilians stand to the side of the road, praying & paying
respect as the procession passes.
I listen as officer(s) fire their weapons in a 21 gun salute, and watch as the family, and
other officers jump, as this reminds them of the last sound heard by our fallen brothers.
At last, as tears stream down the faces of the mourners at the grave, we watch as the officer(s)
are layed to rest, and say our final farewells to these our brothers.
I reflect, and remeber:
  All gave some
  And some gave all
  Some stood through
For the red, white and blue
  And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
  Think of all your liberties
  And recall
  Some gave all. (unknown writer)
To all my brothers/sisters, may god be with you each and every day, and remember, we are a part
of the largest family in the world, and when one hurts we all hurt.
To Dan & Ron, though i knew you not, you will never be forgotten, because you were my
brothers!!!!!

Dan, I had Great times in school (NCH) Class 79, we used to laugh and talk all the time. You are GREATLY missed and are in a better place. "I'll see you up there sometime" and we will be able to talk and laugh again. "Godspeed" Brother in Christ.

I've just recently joined the law enforcement community. As only a sophmore in high school, and not knkowing that my career path would lead me here, i watched theses officers funeral procession, and felt the loss as much as i would now if my fellow officer were shot down. These heros death truely affected me and the way i preform my job everyday. May they rest in peace.

I'm sorry I took so long. Linda and I have recently and finally, touched base, and like she says-it's for a reason. I agree, thinking maybe you and my dad had something to do with it. God Bless you and your family Danny.

There comes a time when all officers in the line of duty are faced with many rough life and death situations. In ths case it was a fatal situation.Due o a Domestic violence case, these two brave officers put their lives on the line to do what was right and the outcome was tragic.....so may you rest in peace Officer Pope knowing you gave your all above and beyond the line of duty.....
