Dear Parole Board Members:

I respectfully ask that you DO NOT grant parole to Salvatore V. DeSarno, inmate #81A1798. The inmate's violent murder of NYPD Police Officer Cecil Sledge in 1981 should preclude any parole consideration.

On Monday, January 28th, 1980, Officer Sledge conducted a traffic stop on inmate #81A1798. During the stop, inmate #81A1798 shot Officer Sledge and dragged his body with his car for a quarter mile. Additionally, inmate #81A1798, who was out on parole, took an elderly woman hostage after murdering Officer Sledge. Inmate #81A1798 is an extremely violent person and has already been denied parole multiple times. It is clear he poses a clear and present danger to the citizens of New York.

Inmates who take the life of an officer should be subject to serving their complete sentence without parole. In the case of inmate #81A1798, a life sentence for murder should mean just that.

Police Officer Cecil Sledge was a dedicated Officer with the New York City Police Department for 12 years. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father to two children.

Parole is a privilege, and the severity of his crime while he was on parole demands that he spend every day of his life in prison. As a concerned citizen, and in the interest of public safety, I ask that you DENY PAROLE to #81A1798.
